Avoid sudden cold and heat:
Ceramic tableware that has just been taken out of the oven/microwave should not come into direct contact with cold water to prevent thermal expansion, contraction, and cracking (except for high boron silicon ceramics).
Iced ceramic dishes should not be immediately served with hot soup (temperature difference exceeding 60 ℃ can easily explode).
Reasonable storage
Layered placement: Use partitions or soft cloth to separate cabinets and avoid stacking and squeezing (especially for thin porcelain and bone china).
Wrapping protection: ceramic products that have not been used for a long time shall be wrapped with soft paper or bubble film, and newspaper/foam shall be filled when put into the carton to prevent shaking.
Hanging storage: Vases and large-sized plates can be hung using hooks or specialized brackets to reduce stacking pressure.
3、 Maintenance of special types of ceramics
Unglazed pottery/rough pottery
First use: Soak the new jar in clean water for 24 hours to fill the pores with water, which can enhance the impermeability (such as ceramic jars used for water storage and pickling).
Avoid contact with oil stains: unglazed surfaces are prone to absorbing oil and are difficult to clean. It is recommended to use them for storing dry food and decorative items.
Underglaze/overglaze tableware
Underglaze color: The pigment is located below the glaze layer, which is relatively safe and can be used normally, but avoid scratching the image with hard objects.
Glaze color: The pigment on the surface of the glaze layer may wear and fade after long-term use. Do not use steel wire balls to scrub, and avoid storing acidic foods (such as vinegar and fruit juice) to prevent the precipitation of heavy metals in the pigment.
Cracked glaze/sliced ceramic
This type of ceramic intentionally retains natural cracks (such as Ge kiln), and attention should be paid to the possibility of dirt accumulation in the gaps during cleaning. It can be lightly brushed with a soft bristled brush or regularly soaked in diluted neutral cleaning agent and rinsed.
